Artist profile:
Richard Satava, glassblower

Master glass-blower Richard Satava creates luminous glass art by combining the highest degree of technical skill, with an artistic creativity fuelled by an innate love and appreciation of nature.

First introduced to glass-blowing at high school, his successful career spans 30 years with his extraordinary creations sought-after world-wide. Employing ancient techniques, Richard has developed a style that is inimitably magnificent.

He has developed his own exclusive colour formulas to create original designs in vases, sculptures, paperweights and vessels. Every piece is an original, designed by Richard, and created at the Satava Art Glass Studio in Chico, Northern California.

In all of his works, Richard's attention to detail and dimension is remarkable, with each piece blown and shaped without the use of moulds. By the use of blowpipes, his torch melts coloured rods of glass to create precise images suspended within layers of clear glass that hold an ethereal translucence that capture the beauty and wonder of nature, from the ocean to the mountains.

Each piece is then signed, dated and numbered.

Richard's works are included in numerous public and private collections throughout the world.

Richard Satava lives and works in the small town of Chico, in Northern California.
